Ukraine announces the advance of Russian defenses in Zaporizhia, Britain warns of further Russian attacks

Russia's Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that a second Ukrainian attempt to conduct a drone strike on Belgorod province had failed, while Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during his visit to Kyiv, said that reviving the grain deal was a priority for his country.

This comes at a time when Ukraine confirmed that it had successfully penetrated key Russian defenses in Zaporizhia province, while the UK Ministry of Defense stated that Russia could step up its attacks in north-eastern Ukraine.

Earlier on Saturday, Russia announced that it had destroyed a drone over the Astra region of Belgorod on the border with Ukraine, while the provincial governor announced that civilians had been injured by cluster munitions fire.

For his part, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that early on Saturday morning Russian air defenses shot down a drone in the Istra district on the outskirts of the capital.

Russian media reported that Moscow airports have resumed normal traffic after an hour's flight restrictions related to the blast on the outskirts of Moscow.

In turn, the command of the Ukrainian Air Force reported that it had destroyed two Iranian “Shahid”-type marches in the Kharkiv province in the northeast of the country.

Two people were also killed and another injured after Russia bombed the village of Podolye near the city of Kupyansk (northeast), the region's governor Oleg Sinigubov announced on Saturday.

"The enemy attacked a civilian target, a cafe where residents spent the day," he added.

The Russian army announced in recent days that it is advancing near the area that was recaptured by Ukrainian forces last year but is now engaged in a new offensive.

Development of the counter-offensive

On the ground, a Ukrainian military commander told Reuters that Ukrainian troops believe they have penetrated the most difficult Russian defenses in Zaporizhia (south) and are now able to advance faster.

The commander, using the pseudonym "Skala", added that Ukrainian troops had now advanced into areas where only "Russian logistics" groups existed and made it clear that he did not expect it to be difficult going to break through the Russian defenses there.

Ukraine launched a counter-offensive last June, but Russia's well-prepared defense lines, backed by minefields, have slowed the advance of Ukrainian troops south towards the Sea of Azov.

The Ukrainian Air Force, in turn, reported that three Ukrainian pilots were killed when two L-39 aircraft collided during a training mission in the Shotomir province of western Ukraine.

For its part, the British Ministry of Defense reported that Russia could step up its attacks east of the cities of Kupyansk and Liman (northeast Ukraine) to push west to the Oskel River and create a buffer zone around Lugansk.

In his daily intelligence report on the war in Ukraine, he added that the Ukrainian counter-offensive put pressure on Russian forces in Bakhmut and southern Ukraine.

"Nevertheless, the West Russian group of troops continued its small attacks to the north-east in the Kupyansk and Lyman sectors and made localized advances," it said.

Waiting for F-16

In parallel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on allies to speed up deliveries of F-16 fighter jets to counter Russian forces.

In a video posted to social media on Friday afternoon, Zelenskyy said, "Our goal is to get closer to the point where the F-16 will help us take out Russian terrorists as quickly as possible."

Denmark and the Netherlands earlier this week agreed to supply fighter jets to Ukraine after Zelenskyi visited those two countries twice, and Norway became the third country to pledge to supply those fighter jets to Kiev after Prime Minister Jonas Gahr announced the visit Ukrainian capital will be for the last time. Thursday.

In total, the delivery of dozens of aircraft to Ukraine was promised, but an exact delivery date was not set.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that plans by European countries to equip Kyiv with F-16 fighter jets and Mi-24 helicopters confirm that these countries have a hostile attitude towards Russia and its growing involvement in the conflict in occupied Ukraine. As she put it.

Grain Agreement

In connection with the grain deal, a cargo ship left the Ukrainian port of Odesa after the Ukrainian authorities opened a humanitarian corridor that allowed ships stuck in the port to escape.

Navigational data from showed that the Liberian-flagged cargo ship Primus departed for the Bulgarian port of Varna, where it is expected to arrive tomorrow.

On Friday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that his country and Turkey are making joint efforts to revive the agreement on grain transportation through the Black Sea.

Kuliba, speaking at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Kyiv, added that revitalizing the grain deal was at the forefront of the issues he discussed with his Turkish counterpart.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the revival of the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement was a priority for his country and stated that President Erdogan was making regular efforts in this regard.
